Some vehicle manufacturers suggest that their automatic transmission fluid is “lifetime oil” that will last the life of the transmission. Unfortunately, even the best specification oils degrade over time, and most modern automatic transmissions now require a fluid exchange service every three years, or 30,000-60,000 miles. In a traditional automatic transmission fluid change, the technician drains the old fluid, replaces the filter and refills the system. While faster and cheaper, only 45%-60% of the oil is drained, with oil left in the torque converter, cooler lines, valve body and components.
We have an automatic transmission flush (ATF) and fill machine at Primeval, which uses a detergent-based cleaning cycle to change 99.9% of the transmission fluid – no mixing of old and new fluid.
WHY DOES A REGULAR TRANSMISSION FLUID CHANGE MATTER?
Regular transmission fluid changes can help avoid common automatic transmission problems such as:
- Torque converter issues (RPM needle fluctuates whilst driving at a steady speed)
- Transmission jerking
- Difficulty changing gear or slipping out of gear
- Delayed engagement (especially when the engine is cold)
